Welcome to my Italian Adventure blog - my daughter Kate (age 14) and I will be leaving on June 21 to spend 12 fabulous days (really 10 - they count flying days as trip days) in Italy.
We'll be seeing Rome, Florence, Venice, Sorrento, Assisi, Capri, Pompeii, and Spoleto. Kate's taking the optional Pisa excursion, but I'm staying for a free day in Florence.
Some of you know that my day job is Editor of Forever MX-5 magazine - all about Miatas. Well, I've been getting good use out of Google's translation pages and posting to Italian Miata forums (fora?) to let them know I'm coming. So I'm planning to meet up with Miata owners in Rome and also in Florence, and maybe Venice (though that one's a puzzler to me) and take some pictures.
I also plan to take a lot of general photos of Italy, and will post them here for you all to see.
Kate plans to eat a lot of gelato, and I plan to drink a lot of good Italian coffee. And wine - always with the vino.
I've completed Italian Conversation 1 at Portland Community College this spring, and if I remember nothing else but per favore, e molto gentile, mi dispiace, prego, and quanto costa, I expect I'll do just fine. Kate's been practicing the basics with me at home, and I think she'll do fine as well.
I was last in Italy at age 16 - back in 1980. I loved it then and I've continued to appreciate things italian all my life. So I'm thrilled to be going back and I'm glad you've chosen to follow this adventure online.
A Presto!

Jeff, you should watch the movie Breaking Away-- there's a lot of Italian in it, although it's not an Italian movie!
Have fun in Italy, and we're really looking forward to reading all about it!
Don't forget to give us the translations of your phrases... :)
